Nagaland’s CTAN, NNQF Launch "Movement for Right to Equal Opportunity" Against Backdoor Appointments

Kohima, April 15, 2025 – The Combined Technical Association of Nagaland (CTAN) and the Nagaland NET Qualified Forum (NNQF) have announced a peaceful agitation, dubbed the “Movement for Right to Equal Opportunity,” set to begin on April 16, 2025, at the Department of Higher Education, Nagaland Secretariat. The protest targets a controversial government order dated December 17, 2023, which the groups claim facilitates backdoor appointments of Assistant Professors and Librarians, undermining merit-based recruitment.

In a joint statement, CTAN and NNQF expressed frustration over what they describe as systemic favoritism in the state’s higher education hiring process. “This movement is about fairness and ensuring that qualified candidates have equal access to opportunities,” said a CTAN spokesperson. The groups allege that the 2023 order bypasses transparent procedures, depriving NET-qualified candidates of their rightful chances.

To amplify their cause, CTAN and NNQF have launched a digital awareness campaign, urging the public to join the conversation online. Posts circulating on platforms like X highlight the movement’s demand for accountability and reform, with hashtags calling for an end to alleged nepotism in government appointments.

The agitation is expected to draw significant participation from students, educators, and civil society members. Organizers have emphasized their commitment to non-violence, appealing for a peaceful demonstration to press for immediate government action. “We want dialogue, not confrontation,” said an NNQF representative, adding that the groups are open to discussions with authorities to resolve the issue.

The Nagaland government has yet to issue an official response to the planned protest. As the state braces for the movement, all eyes are on how this push for equal opportunity will unfold in the coming days.
